Solder Fume Extractor Systems

Solder fume extraction systems are a must-have, if you want a safe working space. These fumes are well known for causing health issues within the electronics, jewellery, and plumbing industries.

Soldering in jewellery is normally carried out with a flame torch and not a soldering iron. Hand soldering has the operator holding a soldering iron handpiece and applying solder wire to the PCB or wire loom assembly, while solder dipping involves the operator holding a connector or wire and dipping the ends in a pot of molten solder. However, all of them produce the same hazardous smoke and fumes.

The main culprit in leaded solder fume is Rosin (also called Colophony). This is generated from rosin-based solder fluxes. If soldering with Lead-free solder, there is still the risk of inhaling the synthetic, man-made flux fumes as well.

Solder fumes have been proven to cause Occupational Asthma (or worsen the conditions of pre-existing Asthma), Rhinitis, and Conjunctivitis, if not extracted properly. They can also cause Bronchitis, Hypersensitivity, chest pains, headaches, and dizziness.
