A new guidance leaflet for employees has been produced by the HSE which explains the steps employers and employees should take to help prevent lung disease caused by exposure to silica dust in the work place.
What is Silica?
Silica is a natural substance which is found in materials such as most rocks, sand, clay and also products such as bricks and concrete.
Why is this dangerous?
These materials can be dangerous when cut, sanded or carved in the work place as they create fine dust. Some of the dust maybe fine enough to breathe deeply into the lungs which can cause harm to employees health. The fine dust is called respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and is too fine to be seen with normal lighting.
The new guidance leaflet explains how RCS can damage health and what employers and employees can do to prevent harm.
How Vodex can help?
We offer a wide range of dust extractors that will remove silica dust as well as other dust particles from employees work space, allowing them to breathe easy. Our dust extractors come in a range of sizes and different flow rates that filter high levels of particulates.
