One of the main culprits is soldering, whether hand soldering, solder pots and fountains, wave solder machines, and reflow ovens. When solder flux is heated above 183 degrees Celsius (or higher for lead free) a complex mixture of resin acid particulates (smoke) and gases are generated.
In addition to solder fumes, there are many other kinds of vapours, like fumes from potting or dipping, and conformal coating.
