Fume Extraction Director at Vodex runs for Cancer Research#

Vodexs’ Financial Director – Paola James – along with her two daughters shown here, recently ran the Race for Life to raise awareness and money for cancer research.

Paola commented “It was a very enjoyable day with a chance to spend time with my two girls and other like minded women – Cancer is a nasty and hidious illness and all the money we raised goes to help finding that long awaited cure”

It is well documented that many individuals exposed to hazardous substances at work can lead to occupational asthma and even cancers.  Installing a proper fume extraction system is such a simple way to protect exposure, yet so many companies see it as a ‘distressed purchase’ and do not see an increase in production as a result.  They fail to see that by protecting their workforce they create a safer working environment, a happier working environment, less sick days and high staff turnover, not to mention the hidden re recruiting and re training costs involved.

A fine for not complying the COSHH Regulations in the UK can run into thousands of pounds and most company insurance policies do not cover this cost if found guilty of the offence.

A brief history about Race for Life:

It is the biggest fight against cancer in the UK and the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK. Since the first Race for Life in 1994, an incredible six million women have raised over £457 million, more than any other UK event series raising money to fund cancer research.

Some of the Race for Life women take part in celebration of surviving a cancer experience. Others take part in memory of a loved one or to give hope to a cancer-free future. But all of them share a common goal: to raise money for Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work and to help save more lives.
