The BOFA FireBOX MA is a dedicated, inline filter with inbuilt fire surpession systems designed to protect main extraction units from the risk of drawing up metal swarf and dust that may be smoldering or molten. These are often generated during laser cutting and engraving processes, milling and grinding of metals or any other application that generates enough heat to potentially ignite the extracted dust.
If a smouldering ember is drawn into the fume extraction unit, there is a chance that the filter contents could ignite. Any resulting fire would normally be contained inside the extraction unit, but this will most likely cause terminal damage to the extractor unit and in extreme conditions the fire may escape the extraction unit. For a process where such dangers are possible, extra protection is recommended. To help combat this there is the BOFA FireBOX MA.
To combat this the BOFA FireBOX MA uses an internal temperature controller can be set so when a 10°C (18°F) temperature rise over the pre-set ambient temperature is sensed, the FireBOX MA will activate the shut-off valves and turn off the power supply to the extraction unit, preventing airflow to the FireBOX and reducing the fire. On the off-chance that the temperature rises by another 10°C (18°F) at that point the internal fire extinguisher will automatically be activated.

An Independent testing body has found the FireBOX MA contains and smothers fires comprising of burning polymer particulate. The FireBOX MA is intended for metal-based applications and materials only (MA).
