During Laser Treatments a “surgical plume” is released during electrosurgical and ablative laser procedures. This plume is made up of 95% water and 5% particulate matter. The 5% consists of hazardous fumes which can have toxic, infectious and carcinogenic effects. Viruses and bacteria can be transmitted which are classed as ‘AGPs’ (Aerosol Generating Procedures).
Pedicure Treatments have been found to contain keratin, keratin hydrolysates, microbial debris, and viable fungal elements, including dermatophytes and saprotrophs.
There is also the risk of microbial dust during foot care procedures when treating callouses, corns, or during routine exfoliation. All of these particles get into the lungs and can lead to disorders like asthma, rhinitis, and possibly worse.
