Another month, another new Meet The Team blog! Here we chat to our new storeman Seth, who fills an essential role in our business helping us sell and ship our equipment and supplies.

Seth Carpenter, Storeman

“I only joined VODEX around two months ago. Before that I was working for a small charity organisation with about nine shops in and around the Southampton area. However, they were also running upwards of 30 projects in 30 countries around the world, providing housing and food for homeless families. I did PAT testing for them and also ran their eBay shop.

“I’m 52 now and I’ve done quite a lot of things over the years before that, including sales; stores work; I was a field rep for two years going on calls. When [VODEX co-founder] Poala looked at my CV she said she liked the diversity of my experience.

“I didn’t know anyone here at VODEX before I started. I saw the job on Indeed and applied, and I had four interviews with them before being offered the job. It was really good, they are such lovely people and after a few bad career experiences in the past I was a little nervous about starting here. But Poala, Paul and the rest of the team have completely restored my faith in the people I work with!

“My work involves packing the goods we sell and shipping it. I’m also going to be helping them sell some excess stock on eBay. I’ve got a lot of experience on eBay. I’ve got 1,500 transactions on my own account and had over 2,000 transactions on the charity account so I think Poala and Paul are quite keen for me to do that. Other than that, I feel like the sky’s the limit with VODEX I have to say!”

Asked what he knows about VODEX’s business and products, Seth says:

“Applying for the job was the first I’d heard of VODEX. I looked at the information on the website to get an idea of what they did, and I’m getting it all down now. There’s a lot to learn, but unlike a lot of bosses there’s no pressure on me whatsoever. I think they’re very happy for me to get on with it after a few days. I tend to pick things up quickly anyway but whatever I’ve done I’ve always poured my heart and my soul into it. No half measures! I think you get out what you put in.

“Obviously as a business we care about creating a cleaner, healthier environment for people. We deal with beauty salons, a lot of electrical companies, healthcare, even the police. I’ve found I’m really passionate about it, it feels like a really worthwhile industry. It gives me a real sense of purpose and a sense of pride in what I do.”

Towards the end of our chat the conversation turns towards looking forwards.

“I’m really happy doing what I’m doing now, but I’m also always looking for opportunities inside the company. If one was presented to me I’d be very interested. I’m loving work again, I actually get up in the mornings feeling happy to come to work. For the first time in a very long time I was actually looking forward to coming back after Christmas!

“As for the future, I feel like this is where I want to be now until I retire. When Poala interviewed me, I said ‘I’m 52 now, I don’t want to be changing around, I’m looking for somewhere I can call home until I think about retiring.’ I really feel like this could be that place.”
